Birth Control: Different Types & How They Work

Hormonal birth control comes in various form.  The effectiveness, convenience, and side effects vary for each type, so it is essential to discuss options with a healthcare professional to find the best fit.

    Types of Hormones

Two major hormones found in birth control are estrogen and progestin (a synthetic version of the natural hormone progesterone).  The pill, patch and ring uses a combination of both estrogen and progestin.  Women are not recommended to take synthetic estrogen if breastfeeding or have a history of blood clots.  Thus, the mini pill, shot, IUD (non-copper), and arm implants are progestin-only options.  This method stops ovulation, but not as consistently as in combination with estrogen. Therefore, the progestin only method leads to higher pregnancy rates.

    How it Works

    1. Preventing ovulation. Natural hormones are shut down, so the brain no longer communicates with the ovaries on when to release an egg.  Since no egg is released, ovulation does not occur and fertilization cannot happen.
    2. Thinning the uterine lining (endometrium). Thinning the uterine lining makes it harder for an egg to implant.
    3. Thickening cervical mucus. Thick cervical mucus makes it much harder for sperm to enter the uterus and reach the egg.

With the use of any type of hormonal birth control, the natural hormonal balance is altered causing a disconnection with the feminine essence.  Once stopping birth control, it is important to take steps to prevent Post Birth Control Syndrome.

Contact Her Sacred Place hersacredplace@gmail.com to learn more about Post Birth Control Syndrome (PBCS) and ways to reset your body after quitting the synthetic hormones!

Yoni Steaming: How Often Should You Do It?

Yoni Steaming: How Often Should You Do It?

How often to perform yoni steaming is the most frequent question I am asked before a client walks out of the doors of Her Sacred Place.  It is usually during the initial consultation or after a steam is completed.  Either way, it is a popular question and not an easy one to answer.  How often you should yoni steam depends on the reason for steaming.  All women should steam monthly (every 4-5 weeks).   Listed below are a few of the most common reasons for yoni steaming along with recommended frequency.

Remember, steaming is at your own risk and should not be done unless you have been consulted.  You should NOT steam if you are pregnant, think you are pregnant, or have any vaginal bleeding or spotting.  The list below is a short overview with minimum details and it does not take a place of a consultation to review all problems prior to beginning steaming.

    Steaming for Period-Related Problems

If suffering from severe stagnation (dark, clotty, painful periods), heavy periods, long periods (more than 5 days), PMS and/or PMDD, I recommend steaming twice a month – the week prior to expecting your period and a few days after your period goes off.  Once the period problems are alleviated, the steaming plan changes.  However, it is best to stay on this plan at least 6 months even when immediately noticing.  You should use the herbal blend found HERE for this steam.

For more information on how to reduce heavy periods in addition to your steaming regimen, please visit Her Sacred Place YouTube Channel.

Steaming for Vaginal Infections (Bacterial Vaginosis & Yeast Infection)

If you are currently suffering from what you believe is a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis, the best course of action is to steam daily until all of the symptoms of the infection is gone.  This could take 3-10 days of steaming, but it is the best course without antibiotics. Use the herbal blend found HERE for this steam.

    Steaming for Fibroids

This one is tricky because it depends on the number of fibroids, location, and the symptoms.  It is best to book a consultation by e-mailing hersacredplace@gmail.com to determine which steaming plan is best.

Steaming for PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)

While steaming is not proven to cure PCOS, clients report a drastic change in symptoms quickly after consistently steaming.  Changes include a more regular period, less painful periods, reduction in heavy bleeding, and change in facial hair.   Use the herbal blend found HERE for this steam.

    Steaming for Endometriosis

Like steaming for fibroids, this one is complex.  Steaming for Endo could depend on the stage of endometriosis as well as the frequency of bleeding.  You MUST do a consultation and I caution clients with endo to talk with a professional before beginning the steaming process.  There is no cure for endometriosis but steaming typically helps with the excessive bleeding, frequency of bleeding, and heavy bleeding associated with this condition.

In the end, you should ALWAYS consult with a professional before beginning a vaginal steaming plan and never steam at home if you have not done it by a certified facilitator.  If you have any questions, please e-mail hersacredplace@gmail.com.  Happy Steaming.

Feminine Wipes: Why Every Woman Should Use Them

Feminine Wipes: Why Every Woman Should Use Them

Anytime we are feeling unclean or notice a slight odor, we immediately think to wipe “down there” to freshen up.  While tissue may be helping, using tissue could be the problem.  Read below to learn more about the benefits of using Her Sacred Place feminine wipes as a part of your feminine care routine and how it could help your vaginal health.

When to Use Her Sacred Place Feminine Wipes

    After Using the Bathroom

First off, as a woman, the direction in which you wipe is the most crucial thing to know.  ALWAYS WIPE FRONT TO BACK NO MATTER WHAT.  You do not want to accidentally put poop into the vginal area when wiping down there. This is a major cause of UTIs and other vaginal infections. Everyone knows that you MUST wipe after using the restroom whether you pee or poop.  Wiping gets rid of any excess matter and reduces chances of infection and odor.  However, using tissue only isn’t enough.  Her Sacred Place feminine wipes gives an extra umph to keep your area squeaky clean and odor free.  Besides, our wipes are unscented, natural, and chemical free.  So, grab a box of wipes and keep them next to your toilet.  You will notice the change in your vaginal health when you start using these wipes and your friends, family, and guests will thank you!

    During Menstruation

Do you make sure to wipe when you change your menstrual pad?  If not, you should definitely wipe BEFORE replacing your sanitary napkins each time. Wiping with Her Sacred Place moist feminine wipes in between pad changes helps remove old, dried, blood from the skin and leaves the vaginal region fresh.  For extra freshness, purchase our Herbal Menstrual Pads from the website.  They are infused with natural herbs such as  aloe and mint,  so you will notice a cool, minty sensation with each pad change. I LOVE the feeling of putting on one of these new pads!!!!

    After Sex

While sex may be great and exhausting sometimes, do not just LAY THERE after intercourse.  It is important to make sure to use the bathroom and wipe your vaginal area clean.  Why should I use the bathroom you say?  Well, this gives you the opportunity to flush your urethra in case any matter was inserted during sex.  Not peeing after sex GREATLY INCREASES your chances of UTIs. So, if you suffer from frequent Urinary Tract Infections, pay attention to this tip. Back to the subject, always clean yourself by showering or wiping with Her Sacred Place feminine wipes after sex to reduce chances of vaginal infections. None of us wants that FISHY smell of BV.

    After Exercising

Do you shower after leaving the gym?  Well, many gym showers are closed currently to reduce the spread of  COVID-19. As we move into the new year and begin our gym routine, it is important to NEVER leave the gym without cleaning your vaginal region. The friction and movement from working-out causes a lot of moisture down there and is a breeding ground for infection. If you are a gym buff and regularly suffer from vaginal odor, consider using Her Sacred Place wipes after your session.  As an added bonus, purchase the herbal panty liners from our website to act as a barrier between your moist panties and vagina until you get home to change your underwear.  Start by wiping clean with Her Sacred Place feminine wipes and then line your panties.  You will thank me later for this advice.

Vaginal pH: Here’s Why it Is Very Important

Vaginal pH: Here’s Why it Is Very Important

Vaginal pH is the measure of how acidic or alkaline the vagina is.  pH (denoting the ‘potential of hydrogen’ or ‘power of hydrogen’ is the measurement of how acidic or alkaline (basic) a substance is.  The pH scales runs from 0 to 14.  A pH of less than 7 is considered acidic.  A pH of more than 7 is considered alkaline, or basic. A pH of 7 is considered neutral.

What does it mean to have a neutral pH? - Aseptic Health

    Why does Vaginal pH Matter?

The vagina is most healthy in an acidic environment with a pH between 3.5 and 4.5.  This environment is protective and creates a barrier that prevents unhealthy bacteria and yeast from multiplying too quickly and causing imbalances.  A “normal” pH can vary depending on the stage of a woman’s life usually increasing before menstruation, around ovulation, and after menopause.  Women with high vaginal pH, above 4.5, are more susceptible for unhealthy bacteria to grow and are at a greater risk for vaginal infections.  A very acidic pH, less than 3.5, might reduce chance of fertility.

Some Causes of an Unbalanced Vaginal pH

    1. Unprotected Sex. Semen is alkaline, which can encourage growth of certain bacteria.
    2. Antibiotics. These drugs kill not only the bad bacteria that cause disease, but also the good bacteria you need to maintain a healthy, more acidic vaginal pH level.
    3. Douching. Although it isn’t advised, some women regularly wash out their vagina with a mixture of water and vinegar, baking soda, or iodine. Douching not only increases the vaginal pH level, but also encourages the growth of harmful bacterial overall.
    4. Menstrual Periods. Menstrual blood is a little bit basic and raises the pH in the vagina. When that blood flows through the vagina and is absorbed into a tampon or pad and sits in place, it can raise the pH level of the vagina. Note: The pH of blood is 7.4.
    5. Female hormone level change. Lack of estrogen, during the menopausal years, is associated with alkalization of the vaginal pH to above 4.5.
    6. Pregnancy & Breastfeeding. Estrogen levels increases during pregnancy but plummets after pregnancy. Women who breastfeed usually have lower estrogen levels that those who do not.

When most women think of things to “steam” the first items that come to mind are dirty carpets, dirty drapes, and even dirty expensive clothes. We “steam” these items because we want them looking beautiful and smelling like heaven…but the most important thing that we women really need to “steam” is our vagina, and unfortunately most women NEVER utilize a vaginal steam, and I’m going to explain to you why it’s so IMPORTANT for ALL women to steam their yoni!

    Jenny, what is a “YONI”?

Okay, so most people may not be familiar with the term “YONI”, so let me pull out my dictionary and give you the exact definition:

“YONI” is a representation of the female genitalia that in Hinduism is a sign of generative power and that symbolizes the goddess Shakti…

In other words, YONI = VAGINA

Jenny, what the heck is “Yoni Steaming”?

Yoni steaming is a very ancient practice that uses herbs and plants to help maintain, or heal, a woman’s vagina from impurities and infections.

You see, yoni steams restores, cleanses, rejuvenates, revitalizes, and strengthens the female womb, and it’s also an AMAZING way for a woman to reconnect with herself spiritually, emotionally, and even physically.

Many women who choose to steam their yoni believe that it can be meditative and EXTREMELY relaxing, while at the same time allowing them to feel more at home within their own bodies.

    Benefits of Steaming Your Yoni:

Yoni Steam Benefit #1 – Increases circulation

Yoni Steam Benefit #2 – Heightens energy flow by bringing warmth to the womb & pelvis

Yoni Steam Benefit #3 – Heals impurities within the womb

And lastly, but most importantly, a yoni steam strengthens the female mind, body, and spirit!

Jenny, do you have to see a gynecologist to steam ones yoni?

Heck no you don’t have to see your gynecologist to steam your yoni…yoni steaming, also referred to as vaginal steaming, involves you sitting on a vaginal steam stool, or other type of seats with a hole in the middle, and below the stool there’s a bowl or other container containing steaming hot water and a combination of yoni steam herbal blends, such as mugwort (similar to ragweed), rosemary, wormwood and basil.

Jenny, where is the BEST place to buy yoni steam supplies and herbal blends?

Well, after visiting almost 20 online vaginal steaming forums, as well as doing a LOT of research for this article, I have come to the conclusion that the ABSOLUTE best place for women to find the best yoni steaming products is at Her Sacred Place!
